Caving Technical Guide

To explore the underground world safely, cavers need a thorough understanding of a range of techniques.

This guide describes the different techniques and equipment used underground, including moving through the cave, rigging and helping out a party member.
It is not a catalogue of all the methods that exist, but a selection that will allow the caver to cope with all the situations they are likely to encounter underground. They are also the techniques covered on courses at the French Caving School.

It is important to remember that simply reading this book can never replace real training with competent instructors, either within a club or at a training camp. To guarantee safety underground, good training is vital. Safe Caving !
